Welcome to the JMU Department of Nursing!

Graduate and RN to BSN Nursing Spring Information Session and First Annual Alumni Luncheon to be Held

January 31, 2008

Dear JMU Nursing Alumni:

Greetings from the JMU Nursing Department and Happy 2008!

Exciting things continue to happen here in the Department of Nursing.  As you know, in response to the nursing shortage, the BSN program doubled the number of students admitted to the program.  The MSN program now offers a Family Nurse Practitioner Track in addition to the Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Tracks.  The Nurse Educator Program continues to be a popular offering.  There is even an online post-MSN Nurse Educator program!  The RN to BSN program continues to meet the needs of local RNs who want to further their professional education.

This letter has a two-fold purpose.  First, we invite you to attend the Graduate and RN to BSN Nursing Spring Information Session on Saturday, March 29, 2008 beginning at 10:00 a.m.  The session will explain all of the MSN and RN to BSN programs now offered by your alma mater.
Second, the Information Session will be followed by the First Annual Alumni Luncheon, during which we would like to discuss formation of a formal JMU Nursing Alumni Association.  You automatically became a member of the James Madison University Alumni Association when you graduated.  Now that the nursing department is becoming larger and there are a lot more alumni, we see a need for a formal Nursing Alumni organization to help further the goals of the nursing department.  We need your help!

Following are some ways a JMU Nursing Alumni organization could help you and the department:

  1. Establish and maintain a relationship between the nursing alumni and the Department of Nursing;
  2. Establish and maintain a collegial relationship among graduates of JMU Nursing;
  3. Promote pride in the JMU Department of Nursing and its part in the greater JMU community; and
  4. Play an active role in the Development/Fundraising efforts of the Department of Nursing for Scholarships and Fellowships for students and graduates.

Please complete the enclosed card and say “yes” to the invitation to help develop a formal JMU Nursing Alumni Association.  To modify a line from a popular movie, “If you start it, they will come!”  We hope you will come on March 29!
Sincerely,

D. Jeanne Pitsenberger, MSN, RN, NP-C
JMU Nursing Association Luncheon Coordinator
