Welcome to Pi Mu At-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International

A Letter From the President

Linda HultonGreetings to all nurses in this great Shenandoah Valley of Virginia! We are honored to be celebrating our 10th anniversary during 2009-2010 as  “Pi Mu Chapter At Large” of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. This will be a very exciting year for us as we look forward to the challenges and opportunities of meeting the mission of Sigma Theta Tau International and continuing to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide.

Pi Mu Chapter at Large is committed to improving nursing leadership and scholarship. Annually, the Chapter recognizes and distributes awards to nursing professionals and students who demonstrate excellence in activities that influence the health of our communities and the nursing profession. Furthermore, the chapter actively promotes the dissemination of knowledge and evidenced-based practice through educational presentations, research conferences and newsletters.

A few of our accomplishments from the 2008-2009 year included the sponsorship of three scholarship programs, increasing our student leadership awards to four annually, inducting over 70 new members (including 2 international members), and completing a service project with the HARTS organization (Harrisonburg and Rockingham Thermal Shelter).

I would like for us to always keep before us the organizational mission and vision as we proceed with this year’s anniversary celebration activities. As part of that celebration, each business meeting will highlight a theme night (see the Calendar of Events) and special events for Professional Development Day in Spring 2010. Keep checking this website for further information.

I would encourage you to take some time and explore the STTI  website links and review some of the initiatives, including the International Leadership Institute, the Best Practice page, and the Registry of Nursing Research database, and other publications available through the Nursing Knowledge International link.

We look forward to hearing from you and would be honored to have you join us at our many special events. If you have any questions about Pi Mu Chapter at Large, please feel free to contact any of our Board Members.

My very best,
Linda J. Hulton, RN, Ph.D
