Become a Member
Pi Mu welcomes inquiries and applications from prospective members. Membership is conferred to:
- EMU and JMU students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship
- Nurses in the Community and faculty who demonstrate achievement in nursing practice or education.
Criteria for eligibility are set by Sigma Theta Tau and are listed below:
Membership Criteria
Undergraduate Students (EMU/JMU):
- Have completed at least one-half of the required nursing component
- GPA of at least 3.0 or higher
- Rank in the upper 35% of your graduating class
- Demonstrate superior scholastic achievement and academic integrity
Community Nurse /Faculty
- Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing (or other field if achievement in nursing is significant)
- Demonstrate significant achievement in one or more of the following areas: nursing education, clinical practice, administration, or scholarship

Application Process
Membership applications are accepted any time, but new member inductions occur in the early Fall.
