Facilitate the capacity of regional nurses at all stages of career lifespan to engage in evidence-based practice

Foster an environment conducive to professional development and sharing of nursing knowledge:

  • Expand Awards/Scholarships as financial base expands
  • Continue annual programs for Professional Development
  • Explore programmatic linkages with regional chapters STTI
  • Plan EBP seminars for staff nurses
  • Generate and publicize evidence regarding nursing impact on health care with special emphasis during Nurses Week (possibly purchase sponsorship at NPR)
  • Showcase nursing clinical practice projects at the RMH and AMC at programs
  • Jeanne Pitsenberger can assist with marketing Pi Mu at the same time as recruiting for JMU nursing (if appropriate settings)

Leadership

Foster leadership potential and ability in member and non-member nurses at all points in the career lifespan

  • Continue to increase the potential diverse leader pool via informal networking
  • New student leadership awards given to qualified student at induction (each semester)
  • Designate a new board position “Nurse Leader Recruiter”
  • Identify specific members who will serve as liaison to members working in area hospitals (RMH and AMC)
  • Launch a new online survey for both active and non-active members

Service

Provide opportunities for nurses of all ages to engage in socially conscious service activities that publically promote the profession and the mission of STTI

  • Create a service focus for the next year that is consistent with international and chapter mission
  • Create partnerships with service projects already happening ?
  • Seek a relationship with nurses in an international country that does not have STTI chapter.  Induct an international nurse(s) and pay for their membership.
  • JMU/EMU working collaboratively on a service learning health project (possibly Children’s First through WHSV-TV)

Communities

Expand collaborations and linkages with member and non-member nurses

  • Continue collaboration with other professional groups: VNA, SNAs, etc
  • Post a link from Pi Mu Website to nominate a nurse for a Nursing Recognition Award (to be nominated by colleagues or clients)
  • Create a partnership between individual hospital units and nurses with special EBP interests. Create a database for sharing expertise in certain clinical areas.

  • Promote diversity in membership, including race, gender and area of practice
