RN to BSN: Admission

Admission Forms

Admission to the RN-BSN program of study in Nursing is competitive. To be considered for admission to the program, prospective students must:

  • Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with the RN to BSN program coordinator, Dr. Vicki Martin, to review transcripts and provide academic advising prior to applying.
  • Complete the Supplemental Application for RN to BSN Program and mail to the attention of Dr. Vicki Martin. Once approved for admission in to the RN to BSN program, general admission into JMU can proceed.

  • Apply for general admission through the JMU Admissions Department (http://www.jmu.edu/admissions). Online applications are accepted through March 1st. After March 1st, special arrangements may be made to complete the online application.  Please contact Dr. Vicki Martin for assistance with this process.  In the personal statement section of the online application, please write in RN-BSN Program Application. The admissions contact person for the RN-BSN program is Ms. Linda Gorton.
  • Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Transcripts reflecting a cumulative GPA on all college work attempted of 2.5 or better on a 4-point scale.
  • TOEFL scores greater than 570 for international applicants
  • Current unrestricted RN license in any state, Washington D.C., or a U.S possession or territory.
  • Graduates of foreign nursing schools, who are licensed outside of the United States, are required to pass the Qualifying Exam of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS)
  • Employment as an RN for a minimum of six months or plans to practice concurrently with coursework.
  • Ability to meet the department's Technical Standards for nursing practice (posted on the nursing website).

Application Deadline:

Full and part-time students will be admitted in August of each year. Applications are processed on a rolling admission basis until the class fills. Applicants who apply prior to March 1 will be given first consideration.
