James Madison University Department of Nursing offers an RN-BSN program of study with the option to proceed to the MSN program once additional admission criteria have been satisfied. The RN-BSN option equips nurses with clinical knowledge, technological skills, critical thinking and humanistic skills to facilitate in depth clinical decision-making. Graduates of the program are prepared to become leaders in the profession of nursing and in their respective communities. The thirty credit hour RN-BSN program focuses on leadership, research, as well as community and rural health. An alternative track is also available for the nurse who would like to specialize in school nursing. This is a federally funded program preparing nurses to function in school systems (Pre K-12) to meet the needs of students with low-incidence disabilities. Three courses in the RN-BSN program are also required at the MSN level. These courses will be waived at the Master’s level in order to streamline progress through the MSN program of study.

Full- or part-time enrollment in the program is available. Students will proceed through the program as part of a cohort of adult learners. Courses will be taught one day a week to facilitate the schedule of working nurses and will also be web-enhanced.

For questions or additional information, please contact the RN-BSN program coordinator, Dr. Vicki Martin, RN, PhD at martinvc@jmu.edu or at (540) 568-3786.
