In the Fall of 2018 and annually thereafter, the School of Nursing will award an endowed scholarship established in memory of Nursing Instructor Diane Babral. This scholarship is awarded to an upcoming senior or senior nursing student who shows promise in Psychiatric Nursing and is interested in either becoming a psychiatric nurse and/or furthering their education in psychiatric nursing. A Clinical Instructor Reference form is to be completed by a clinical instructor of the student’s choosing. The instructor will rate the applicant on the following criteria, as established by the scholarship: is compassionate, loving, selfless, nonjudgmental to all patients, a team player, proficient in therapeutic communication, willing to go above and beyond to help others, an inspiration to others and has a passion for nursing. No minimum GPA or financial need documentation is required.

Procedure for Nomination

  1. Madison Scholarships Hub is the application center for all JMU Foundation scholarships at James Madison University. To log in to Madison Scholarships Hub, go to MyMadison and under the Student tab click on the logo for Madison Scholarships Hub. Students must complete an application for the Diane Babral Memorial Scholarship to be considered.
  2. As part of the application in the Madison Scholarships Hub, students will be asked to provide contact information for a clinical reference. The reference will be notified of the request and will submit the form directly to the Madison Scholarships Hub.
  3. Applications are accepted until April 1st for the following academic year.

Criteria

Clinical Instructor Reference Form is required from a clinical instructor rating the applicant on the following attributes: compassionate, loving, selfless, nonjudgmental to all patients, a team player, proficient in therapeutic communication, willing to go above and beyond to help others, an inspiration to others and has a passion for nursing.
